-
Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as his children. For what children are not disciplined by their father? If you are not disciplined—and everyone undergoes discipline—then you are not legitimate, not true sons and daughters at all. Moreover, we have all had human fathers who disciplined us and we respected them for it. How much more should we submit to the Father of spirits and live! They disciplined us for a little while as they thought best; but God disciplines us for our good, in order that we may share in his holiness. No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it. – Hebrews 12:7-11
-
- Discipline is applied when disobedience occurs
-
Do not withhold discipline from a child; if you punish them with the rod, they will not die. Punish them with the rod and save them from death. – Proverbs 23:13-14
Whoever spares the rod hates their children, but the one who loves their children is careful to discipline them. – Proverbs 13:24
When the sentence for a crime is not quickly carried out, people’s hearts are filled with schemes to do wrong. – Ecclesiastes 8:11
Folly is bound up in the heart of a child, but the rod of discipline will drive it far away. – Proverbs 22:15
Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. – Ephesians 6:1
…the Lord disciplines those he loves, as a father the son he delights in. – Proverbs 3:12
…we are being disciplined so that we will not be finally condemned with the world. – 1 Corinthians 11:32
